About this addon
What it does
In-game gear scoring, comparison, and simulation for WoW (Midnight)
GearSim gives you instant gear upgrade/downgrade percentages on item tooltips, a stat-weight-based scoring panel, and a rotation-based simulation engine covering all 39 specs, without needing to leave the game or alt-tabbing to a website.
Features
Tooltip Integration
Hover over any equippable item and GearSim adds a line showing the estimated damage or healing upgrade/downgrade as a percentage, plus per-stat deltas in green/red underneath. Tooltip scoring is instant (stat-weight formula, no sim delay).
Sim Panel
Open with /gs or the Sim Gear button on the character frame. The panel shows your current stats, equipped item level, and a Damage Score or Healing Score based on your spec's stat weights with diminishing returns factored in. Drag any item into the comparison slot to see a side-by-side score breakdown with stat deltas.
Rotation-Based Simulation
Hit Run Simulation to execute 1,000 iterations of a full 5-minute fight simulation. GearSim models your spec's actual rotation with proper resource tracking, cooldown management, buff/proc systems, and priority-based ability selection.
Custom Stat Weights
Click the W button to open the stat weight editor. Adjust per-stat weights, save/load named weight sets, and use presets (Default, Spec, Even). Custom weights override the built-in spec profiles for both tooltip scoring and simulation. Weights persist across sessions.
FAQ
How is this different from SimC? GearSim runs entirely inside the game client. It reads your actual equipped stats in real time and gives you instant tooltip comparisons without alt-tabbing. The simulation is lighter weight than SimC - it models the core rotation, resources, cooldowns, and common procs at medium fidelity rather than full APL coverage. Not a replacement for a full simulation using SimC/Raidbots, but accurate enough for quick gear decisions.
Are the numbers accurate? GearSim normalizes simulation output to match its stat-weight formula baseline, so the absolute DPS/HPS number is an internal score, not a raid DPS prediction. The purpose of these numbers is for comparison of items, not a predictor of actual DPS.
Why does my tooltip say +0.3% but the sim says +0.4%? The tooltip uses the instant stat-weight formula (fast, no RNG). The sim runs 1,000 fight iterations with crit rolls, proc chances, and cooldown timing. Small differences are expected since the sim captures interactions the formula can't, like haste breakpoints rotation.
