GearMatic is a World of Warcraft gear upgrade and best-in-slot addon for Retail and every Classic version: Classic Era, Season of Discovery, Hardcore, Burning Crusade, Wrath, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria. It scores every item you see (tooltips, quest rewards, the loot window, your bags) against what you have equipped and marks it with a clear "+12% upgrade" or "-3% downgrade", using per-spec stat weights from the Icy Veins class guides: stat caps, haste breakpoints, and main-stat and item-level weighting for every class, spec, and role, including healers and tanks. You are scored the moment you log in, no setup required.

Prefer your own stat weights? Paste Pawn-format strings from wowsims.github.io or Raidbots into /gm import, or pull every scale straight from the Pawn addon and flip one option to use them instead.

New in version 4.5: low durability fires a real alert (on-screen warning, sound, and a skull emote other players can see), the character-sheet pages for your other characters now show the character itself wearing their actual transmog, and equipment sets on Classic Era and Burning Crusade are saved per character.

The Gear Map

Type /gm gear and GearMatic lays out every upgrade waiting for you across the game's dungeons and raids in one ranked window, biggest jump first. Each row shows the item, its slot and armor type, where it drops and on which difficulty, and a green "+N%" versus what you are wearing. Hover a row for the instance, the boss, the drop chance, and the auction-house buyout on bind-on-equip pieces. Still leveling? The map looks ahead and tags upcoming gear with the level you can equip it at. On Retail and Mists you can filter by difficulty and spec.

Best in Slot

GearMatic ships the Icy Veins best-in-slot list for every spec on every supported version and marks the true best-in-slot item for each slot, even when its raw stats look lower, because a real BiS pick accounts for set bonuses, trinket effects, and crafted gear a stat score alone cannot judge. A skull icon flags BiS pieces in three places: on the item in your bags, on your character sheet for pieces you already wear, and on the group-loot roll window the moment a BiS item is up for roll. Works on Retail, Mists of Pandaria, Burning Crusade, and Classic Era including Season of Discovery and Hardcore.

Simulated Procs, Trinkets, and Set Bonuses

An item's Equip effect carries real value in your score, not just its raw stats. Procs are simulated ahead of time with SimulationCraft (Retail and Mists of Pandaria) and WoWSims (Classic Era, Season of Discovery, Hardcore, and Burning Crusade) for your exact class and spec: damage procs count for damage dealers, tank procs for tanks, healing and absorb procs for every healer. Trinkets are simulated the same way on every version, so an off-list trinket with a strong on-use or proc effect can correctly beat a listed one; the published tier list only marks the guide's top pick. Famous procs are covered: Ironfoe, Thunderfury, and Eskhandar's Right Claw on Classic Era, Dragonstrike, Blinkstrike, and Rod of the Sun King on Burning Crusade, and the legendary cloaks on Mists. Set bonuses are simulated too: the value of completing a tier or dungeon set is measured for your spec and folded into the score of the piece that completes it. When a proc cannot be measured reliably, the tooltip says the effect is not scored instead of guessing.

Your Other Characters

Page through your alts right on the character sheet. Each page shows that character's full equipped gear, stats under Blizzard's own category art, durability bars with a green-to-red ramp, and the character itself: on Retail and Mists the character stands there dressed in their actual transmog appearance, with drag-to-rotate and mouse-wheel zoom, on Classic a dress-up preview with an optional true race and body view. Low durability triggers a real alert: an on-screen warning with the skull raid icon, a sound of your choice, and your character performs a skull emote. Alts with damaged gear are flagged at login, at most once per character per day.

Features

  • Icy Veins guide-based scoring, built in - per-spec stat weights, stat caps (hit, expertise, spell hit), and haste breakpoints for every class, spec, and role on every game version. No setup, no stat-weight authoring.
  • Simulated proc, trinket, and set bonus scoring - SimulationCraft and WoWSims results for your exact spec folded into every item's score, covering damage, tank, healing, and absorb effects, plus the measured value of completing a set.
  • Icy Veins best-in-slot marking - the real BiS item gets a skull in your bags, on your character sheet, and on the group-loot roll window.
  • Tooltip, quest, loot, and bag indicators - green up or red down arrows with the exact percent for each of your specs, everywhere an item appears. Sidegrades within 1% show as neutral. Works with Bagnon, Baganator, ArkInventory, BetterBags, ElvUI, Inventorian, Sorted, LiteBag, and bank views.
  • Pawn weights, optional - one in-game option switches scoring to the Pawn addon's weights; /gm import accepts any Pawn-format string, /gm pawn imports every scale from Pawn.
  • The Gear Map - a ranked list of every upgrade across all content with drop locations, drop chances, and auction buyouts.
  • Browse your alts' gear on the character sheet - page through every character's gear, stats, and durability, with the character shown in their actual transmog on Retail and Mists.
  • Durability alerts - on-screen alert, sound (pick any from the shared sound library), and a public skull emote when your gear drops below your chosen threshold; login warnings for alts wearing thin.
  • Equipment Manager on Classic and Burning Crusade - a Mists-style equipment sets panel on the character sheet for Classic Era, Season of Discovery, Hardcore, and Burning Crusade Anniversary. Sets are saved per character, equip refuses during combat, and rows show their contents on hover.
  • On-screen upgrade alerts - a customizable banner for upgrades and downgrades with your choice of font, color, sound, animation, position, and count-up. Alerts from every Infinite Loop Alchemist addon stack in one shared spot.
  • Auto-equip, optional - swap clear upgrades automatically or on demand with /gm equip, hardened against empty-slot and mid-swap pitfalls. You will not lose a shirt.
  • Auto-sell junk, optional - clear grey trash at any vendor, stopping safely before the buyback fills.
  • Cross-character tracking - see which alts have damaged armor or weak slots, get one-line gear summaries when you mouse over your own characters in chat, friends, guild, or /who, and include mailable and Warband-bank gear in upgrade suggestions.
  • Classic scoring parity with Pawn - per-school spell damage, block value, flat health and mana, defense, and tooltip-parsed spell hit, crit, and haste all count.
  • Loadout window and saved sets - paperdoll view of your current set, /gm save and /gm load for named gear sets.
  • Spec-aware - your spec is auto-detected on every version, at every level.
  • In-game FAQ - a per-version FAQ tab in Settings, written for your exact game version: best-in-slot logic, proc and trinket simming, why a lower item-level piece can win, healer and tank scoring, what the alt preview can and cannot show, and more.
