About this addon

What it does

Midnight Rare Pins

Midnight Rare Pins is a lightweight World of Warcraft Retail addon that adds rare spawn locations from the Midnight expansion directly to the world map.

It provides clean map pins, detailed rare-specific loot tooltips, collection tracking, daily kill status, dynamic event rare support and shared settings for the optional Rare Pins expansion modules.

Midnight Rare Pins also contains the shared Rare Pins core used by the optional Dragonflight, The War Within and Shadowlands modules.

Supported Zones:

- Eversong Woods
- Zul'Aman
- Harandar
- Voidstorm
- Val
- Naigtal
- The Coiled Isle
- Vaults of Atal'Utek

Features:

- Rare spawn pins directly on the world map
- Separate icons for Rare and Rare Elite enemies
- Accurate rare coordinates
- Hover highlighting
- Detailed rare-specific loot tooltips
- Mount, pet, toy, cosmetic and special reward information
- Collection status for mounts, pets, toys and supported special rewards
- Account-wide transmog collection status for wearable equipment
- Daily rare kill tracking using Blizzard's hidden quest completion flags
- Optional hiding of rares already killed that day
- Optional hiding of duplicate Blizzard rare pins
- Smooth World Map pulse for rares currently detected by Blizzard as active
- Dynamic rare pins for supported event-based rares
- Separate personal rare drops and shared zone-wide loot
- Shared Rare Pins settings for all installed expansion modules
- Consistent loot sorting across supported expansions
- Optional Shift-click target frame shortcut to insert the current target name into chat

Collection Tracking:

Collectible rewards display their collection status directly in the tooltip.

Green - already collected
Red - not collected

Supported collection tracking includes:

- Mounts
- Pets
- Toys
- Wearable transmog appearances
- Selected special rewards

Wearable equipment uses account-wide transmog collection information where available.

Items that do not provide a collectible appearance, such as rings, necks and trinkets, are left neutral.

Loot Sorting:

Rare Pins uses a shared loot sorting system across supported expansion modules.

Collectibles and special rewards are shown before regular equipment.

Equipment is then organized into a consistent order:

- Special rewards and collectibles
- Weapons
- Armor by equipment slot
- Neck
- Rings
- Trinkets

This keeps rare tooltips compact and predictable even when a rare has a large loot table.

Daily Kill Tracking:

Rare kill status is read from Blizzard's server-side hidden quest completion flags.

Each supported daily rare displays:

Killed today - green
Not killed today - red

The addon does not rely on combat-log scanning, targeting, corpse scanning or manually stored kill history.

Because the status comes from Blizzard's own quest flags, it follows the character's actual daily rare lockout state.

You can optionally hide rare pins after their daily kill has been completed.

The hide setting is shared across Rare Pins modules, while Blizzard's kill completion state remains character-specific.

Blizzard Rare Pins:

World of Warcraft may already display native vignette markers for some rares.

Rare Pins includes an optional:

Hide duplicate Blizzard rare pins

When enabled, Blizzard's native rare marker is hidden only when an enabled Rare Pins module already provides the same rare on the current map.

Rare Pins' own marker and detailed tooltip remain visible.

You can disable this option at any time if you prefer to see both markers.

Active Rare Pulse:

Rares currently detected by Blizzard as active can optionally use a smooth pulse animation on the World Map.

The pulse helps distinguish rares that are currently spawned or active without adding additional permanent map markers.

The effect is limited to the World Map and can be enabled or disabled from the shared Rare Pins settings.

Dynamic Event Rares:

Rare Pins supports event-based rares that should not have permanent map pins.

For supported dynamic rares, the addon uses Blizzard's live vignette information and only displays the Rare Pins marker while the rare is actually active.

The pin uses the rare's current Blizzard-reported position and automatically disappears when the rare or event is no longer active.

This keeps event-based rare tracking accurate without leaving inactive or misleading permanent pins on the map.

Target Name to Chat:

Rare Pins includes an optional quality-of-life feature:

Shift-click target frame to insert name in chat

While a chat edit box is open, hold Shift and left-click Blizzard's target frame to insert the current target's name at the chat cursor.

The message is never sent automatically.

This option can be enabled or disabled from the Rare Pins settings.

Settings:

All installed Rare Pins modules are managed from a shared Rare Pins settings category.

Available options depend on which modules are installed and can include:

- Enable Midnight rares
- Enable Dragonflight rares
- Enable The War Within rares
- Enable Shadowlands rares
- Hide rares killed today
- Hide duplicate Blizzard rare pins
- Pulse active rares on the World Map
- Shift-click target frame to insert name in chat

Only installed expansion modules appear in the settings panel.

Optional Expansion Modules:

Additional Rare Pins modules are available separately for:

- Dragonflight
- The War Within
- Shadowlands

These modules use the shared core and settings provided by Midnight Rare Pins, keeping map behavior, tooltip styling, kill-status presentation, collection tracking, loot sorting and dynamic rare handling consistent across expansions.

Midnight Rare Pins should therefore remain installed when using any of the optional Rare Pins expansion modules.
