Augur for Exboss

What this is

You installed a Chinese addon. Now you're here looking for an English voice pack for the Chinese addon you installed. We are not going to ask questions.

Augur is the English part. ExBoss (by EXWIND) is the Chinese addon. ExBoss does all the real work (encounter timers, mechanic triggers, callout wiring, magic, demonology, accounting). Augur swaps out the voice files. That is the entire addon. Please try to keep track.

195 callouts. All English. Yes, all of them. No, we did not skip any. Yes, including the ones nobody hears outside Mythic. Same labels EXWIND uses (Chinese, of course), same trigger points (Chinese, somehow, even the math feels Chinese), different voice on top (English, at last, American specifically).

Causese vs. the bundled TTS

Causese is a real human voice library. An actual American person, in an actual booth, opened their actual mouth and said the actual English word "interrupt." Repeatedly. For hours. Probably for less money than they should have charged. We owe Causese a coffee.

ExBoss now quietly ships its own English pack inside the main Chinese addon download because EXWIND apparently felt left out and decided to release their own competing English pack. Theirs is Chinese Style English — TTS-generated by a robot that has, at best, opinions about how English is supposed to sound. You can prove it without even listening: five different cues (clear-ball, clear-water, find-beacon, prepare-clear-stack, target-clear-line) are byte-for-byte the same audio file. The robot got tired around clip three and decided "close enough, ship it." There are probably more we haven't caught yet. We stopped looking.

Pick whichever English you prefer. We have strong opinions. We are exercising restraint. It is a struggle.

Install

1. Install ExBoss. Yes, you need the Chinese addon to use the English pack for the Chinese addon. We don't make the rules. We barely understand the rules.
2. Drop the Augur folder into World of Warcraft/_retail_/Interface/AddOns/. Not Documents. Not Desktop. Not wherever Steam thinks you keep WoW. The actual _retail_ folder. Yes that one.
3. Enable both on the character-select addon list. Both. Not one. Both. If you only enable Augur, Augur will sit there in pristine silence and you will play the entire raid hearing nothing, and then you will write us a bug report, and we will sigh.
4. Log in. We have tested logging in extensively and it appears to be required.

How to actually hear English

Chinese-locale clients (zhCN/zhTW): nothing to do. Augur quietly hijacks the Chinese addon's Chinese pack and replaces the audio with English while you weren't looking, like a polite home invader. Your menus stay Chinese. Your timer bars stay Chinese. The voice is English. Try not to think about it.

English-locale clients (enUS/enGB and friends): the Chinese addon decided on your behalf that it knows which English you want, and it picked its own Chinese Style English (TTS) pack. The Chinese addon has trust issues. To override its opinion of you:

1. Open ExBoss options.
2. Find the voice-pack dropdown.
3. Pick Causese (English). It says "English" right in the name. There is no ambiguity.
4. A Chinese Style popup pops up asking if you're really really really sure you want English voices on your English client. Say yes. The popup is itself now in English (a recent diplomatic breakthrough between EXWIND and the concept of localization), so reading it should not require any new skills.

That persists across logins. One time, per character. After that, English. Forever. Until the Chinese addon decides to renege, at which point we will write another changelog about it.

Notes

• Requires ExBoss. Augur on its own produces no sound. When it does produce sound, the sound is English. We feel like this is the fourth time we've mentioned that. We will stop.
• Does not translate the Chinese addon's UI. We are not translators. We are a voice pack. We make noise. The noise is English. The menus are not our problem.
• Interface versions: 120005, 120001 (TWW + Midnight 12.0.x). If your client predates Midnight, you have larger issues than voice packs.
• Updating Augur doesn't touch ExBoss settings. If you picked Causese (English), it stays Causese (English). Still English. We promise.
• To switch back to the Chinese Style English pack or the original Chinese pack, pick a different entry from the ExBoss dropdown. Augur's files stay on disk in case you come back to your senses, or just want to flex on your group by toggling languages mid-pull.
• Bug reports and missing-callout reports welcome on the Issues tab. File them in American if possible. Or Chinese.
